Bright Blessings LKN is a chapter of Bright Blessings USA located in Matthews, NC. Their goal is to bring joy, care, and hope to homeless and impoverished children in our community. Currently, they serve children in Mecklenburg and Iredell county schools. They also support children at Hope House of Huntersville and HOMe of Mooresville. Entirely volunteer led, they are housed at Broad Street UMC in downtown Mooresville, NC.
Services to children are provided through three programs:
The Bless-A-Birthday program provides a bag of gifts and a family celebration kit containing items to provide a birthday cake and party for the child. Volunteers select and wrap the gifts for each child and the bags are then delivered to the school’s counselor to give to the child.
Our Gift of Literacy program provides each of the children they support with two books chosen for being of high interest and literary value. They strive to establish a love of reading by helping each child develop their own home library through these yearly gifts.
Through the Gift of Care program children receive a hygiene kit on their birthday containing essentials such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste/brush, and a selection of healthy snacks. Schools also have the opportunity to receive hygiene items and healthy snacks to create a Care Cupboard. They can also request Go Bags containing sleeping bags, blankets, pillows/cases, socks, comfort items such as a stuffed animal, and an encouragement card to have on hand for any child suddenly facing home insecurity issues.
