Peninsula Community Foundation recognized for ‘Excellence’

The Cornelius Town Board awarded the Mayor’s Award of Excellence to the Peninsula Community Foundation for its impactful charitable work since 2021, raising over $2.8 million to support education, health, and services for children and seniors.

Dec. 17. By Dave Vieser. At the December 16 meeting of the Cornelius Town Board, the Mayor’s Award of Excellence was presented to the Peninsula Community Foundation for their charitable work.

In a proclamation presented by Mayor Woody Washam, the foundation was commended for “making a significant impact in empowering non-profit organizations that are in the business of education, health, and that serve children and seniors.”

The foundation was established in 2021, and has thus far raised and granted funding of more than $2.8 million to area non-profit organizations. Washam said that the foundation has inspired volunteers, donors, and community members to contribute their time, resources, and talents toward strengthening the region.

The president of the foundation is George Searle.

The Mayor’s Award of Excellence is presented to groups and individuals which have made significant positive contributions to the region’s quality of life.
